Crosswind are based in Castlemaine and have been performing in Central Victoria for more than 20 years. We cover a wide variety of music from to Jazz,bluegrass,old time rock n role.
“Crosswind”– a 4 piece band, play an energetic variety of music. Whether it’s bluegrass, folk, classic rock ‘n’ roll or jazz our sets range from quiet acoustic dinner sets to full band dance brackets, well paced, and sure to please a wide variety of audiences. Great vocals, tasty solos, solid rhythms and a lively stage presence are all standard equipment.
Using a range of instruments, we share the vocals and four part harmonies are a feature.
“Crosswind” – is a quartet of experienced and talented musicians with many years of live performance (lounge, stadium and everything in between) and recording experience between us. We are based in Castlemaine, Central Victoria, and have been together 15 years (and with no outstanding warrants).
“Crosswind” – can provide music for weddings, corporate functions, hotels/restaurants, parties, wineries, shopping centres, festivals and any events where roving musicians are required. (Imagine patrons being serenaded individually at their tables, bride and groom having their own song sung a Capella during the ceremony – how romantic would that be?)
Band Members:
Andrew Dunn – drums, scrub-board and vocals. (Dunny)
Andrew (the junior member) has been playing music for twenty plus years and has experience in many styles. Was the rhythm behind The Rhythm Rattlers (A no fear stage diver now retired.)
Laurie Nicoll – electric/acoustic guitar, five-string banjo and vocals (Lightnin’)
Laurie (the senior member) has over forty years experience working behind artists such as Johnny O’Keefe, John Farnham and Ronnie Burns. As well he has played solo and been a member of numerous bands. Laurie was a member of “Wallis and Matilda” during which time they were awarded a platinum album. He is also an accomplished songwriter, twice reaching the finals of the Tamworth Country Music Awards, and winning the 3CCC FM Song writing competition. In 2000, Laurie won The Henry Lawson Song writing Competition.
Phillip Avent – acoustic, electric bass and vocals (Pip)
Pip (next senior member) has spent all his life as a professional musician and teacher. Learnt Tuba with the Coldstream Guards and has toured the UK and Europe extensively and until recently he was a long-term member of the Melbourne band, “The Society Syncopators”. Pip, arguably the best tuba player in Australia, (at least that’s what he tells us) has released his first solo tuba CD and is receiving national airplay.
Rod Willaton – rhythm guitar, harmonica and vocals
Rod (nearly senior member) a driving rhythm player with thirty years experience in a variety of bands. More recently he spent time with the Central Victorian bands, “Break of Day” and “The Rhythm Rattlers”.
We can provide a small PA system, lights and recorded music between sets.
For special occasions and performances we can supplement our band with any of the following instruments: piano, saxophone and piano accordion.
“Crosswind” will also endeavour to learn requests for special occasions.
